Common Questions

What to Know About Individual Therapy at Puget Sound Psychotherapy & Psychiatry

How do I know if individual therapy is right for me?
You do not need to be in crisis to start therapy. Many people begin counseling because they feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, disconnected, anxious, burned out or ready for change and support.
Do you offer online therapy in Washington?
Yes. We offer secure telehealth counseling for clients throughout Washington State in addition to in-person therapy in Seattle at our clinic in Madrona.
How long are therapy sessions?
Most individual therapy sessions are approximately 55 minutes long.
How long does therapy last?
Some people find relief in as few as six to eight sessions by gaining a better understanding of their needs and adopting new perspectives. Healing from stressors or experiences like trauma or long-term conditions can take longer.
How do you match clients with therapists?
Our intake team helps connect clients with therapists based on scheduling needs, personality fit, therapy goals, and areas of specialization.
What issues do you treat in individual counseling?
Our therapists work with anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, grief, ADHD, neurodivergence, relationship issues, identity exploration and life transitions.
Do you offer LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy?
Yes. Our practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming and committed to providing respectful, inclusive, trauma-informed care.
How do I know if therapy is working?
Making progress in therapy is often gradual. Over time, you may notice feeling less overwhelmed, understanding yourself more clearly, communicating differently or reacting to stress in healthier ways.
What if I'm overwhelmed but don't know exactly why?
You do not need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Many people come in feeling stressed, anxious, burned out, or emotionally stuck without fully understanding why. We can help you make sense of what you are experiencing.
What if I've had a bad experience with therapy before?
A difficult experience with a past therapist does not mean therapy cannot help you. The relationship and fit matter, and we encourage open conversations about what did or did not feel helpful in previous therapy experiences.
